Nuisance
The Village's Nuisance Abatement Board found the "real property located at 344 E. Hines Hill Road" to be a "public nuisance", at its hearing on 19 April 2004. This is the long-closed high-rise hotel in Boston Heights (aerial view). The Board acted in the capacity defined by Codified Ordinances Section 1379, and must next communicate to the owner its requirements for abatement or elimination of the nuisance.
The owner, Omni Turnpike LCC, was present at the hearing, and addressed the Board's questions. The Board also considered a report by the Village's Building and Electrical Inspectors on the current condition of the hotel.

History

This hotel was opened in 1962 as the Yankee Clipper Inn, and has variously been operated since as the Brown Derby Inn, Regency Inn, Days Inn and Hudson Inn, among other names. It has been closed since 1998; Roth Investment Group, its then-owner, was foreclosed upon by Metropolitan Bank (at a nominal value of $2M). The property was purchased by Omni Turnpike LLC on 12 November 2002 for $950,000 -- but has not been re-opened since.
The Village has been considering condemning the hotel since 1999, also in early 2002, and most recently at the Sep 2003 and Mar 2004 Council meetings. The Village has been asking the owners about plans for demolishing the hotel since August 2003 (at least).
According to this Hudson Hub-Times article, Omni was to make a decision on demolition within 60 days of their Nov 2002 purchase.
Note: Omni Realty, a partner in Omni Turnpike, had sought zoning changes to allow a Sheetz service station at this location, as well as more extensive changes to allow cluster homes and more expansive commercial rezoning.
This "hotel for sale" sign appeared to be a response to the Village action (3 June 2004): Omni Hotel for sale
