Overview
Omni Realty had asked for major zoning changes to allow more
retail & hotel development adjacent to existing homes, and for high-density housing in the
Village of Boston Heights, Ohio. Through "Omni Turnpike LLC", the company already owns the derelict
hotel at Hines Hill Road and Route 8; it is also a partner in adjacent land that includes Liberty Harley-Davidson.
The company wishes to combine those holdings with additional acreage to the east, and directly to the south of
the Turnpike on Boston Mills Road.
The company's official zoning requests were presented at the May 2004 PC/BZA meeting.
News: At its 14 July 2004 meeting,
the Village Council voted to not adopt these zoning changes.
News: At its 7 July 2004 meeting,
the Planning Commission voted to "Not Recommend" these changes to Council.
News: A public hearing on these proposals was held on 9 June 2004, where Omni once again explained their requests and the reasoning behind them. No residents spoke in favor of Omni's zoning proposals, but a number of citizens had questions, and some had explicit objections.
News: The Planning Commission began formally considering these zoning changes at its
5 May 2004 meeting.
News: Omni revises their proposal: February 2004 PC/BZA meeting.
After an Omni presentation on 16 December 2003, Council refused to consider the PUD zoning change requested by the developer. The company was advised to return with a development proposal more consistent with the current Village zoning.
News: Omni revises their proposal: December 2003 PC/BZA meeting.
