William "Bill" Baldwin, age 84, of Boston Heights, OH, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, July 26th, 2024. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Harold "Bud" Baldwin, and by his mother, Harriet Baldwin. He is survived by his loving wife Joy Baldwin; daughter Holly Baldwin; son Kim (Patti) Baldwin; grandchildren Hannah (Jon) Hamad, Adam (Emma) Baldwin, Sara (Emily) Baldwin, Steve Womble, Chris (Katie) Womble; nine great grandchildren and his beloved dogs, Foxy and Cooper.
Bill was born to Bud and Harriet on June 3rd, 1940. He was raised in Northfield, Ohio where he remained until he entered the Coast Guard after graduation. He was stationed in Grand Haven, Michigan where he tended the lighthouse and was a Bosun Mate. This is where he met his future wife, Joy. They were married on February 13th, 1960. In 1961, while stationed in Erie, Pennsylvania, their daughter Holly was born. Their son Kim followed two years later in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. They moved to their home in Boston Heights in 1964. Bill was a tool and die maker and was the Fire Chief of the Boston Heights Fire Department until his retirement on June 30th, 2003. Bill and Joy loved to travel in their Westfalia and had many, many animals throughout the years including a horse, peacocks, chickens, dogs, cats, and fish.
Bill greatly impacted all with both his wisdom and knowledge. Bill was a fixer of all things. He ran a successful tropical fish business, obtained his private pilot's license, and taught firefighting tactics for Summit County. He adored his family and took pride in making sure everyone, and everything, was taken care of. He loved taking pictures, smoking his pipe, trains, restoring, and building, vintage cars and steam engines, talking on his HAM radio, traveling to his farm, mowing the grass, meeting his friends every Wednesday, reminiscing about the past, telling jokes, laughing, and so, so much more.
It's quite possible that he was indeed, the most interesting man in the world. He will be greatly missed by friends, acquaintances, but most of all, his loving family.
The family will receive friends 11AM - 1PM WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2024 at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 99 W. Aurora Rd. (Rt. 82, one mile west of Rt. 8), Northfield Center, OH where funeral services will begin at 1:00PM. Interment to follow at Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery.
