Subject: Additional query, re Proposed Army Reserve Center Boston Heights OH

Ms. Keel --

Regarding the 88th RSC Army Reserve Center proposed for Boston Heights, Ohio -- for which project the public comment period recently ended -- I have an additional query. I suspect you may get a number of similar inquiries on this matter:

In a very recent public meeting, it was stated that the US Army intends, or has offered, to purchase an additional parcel of land in the village of Boston Heights, of approximately 20 acres. Supposedly this additional property, which is at 581 Hines Hill Road, would be obtained in addition to the already-proposed 22 acres acquisition at the 7100 Block of Olde Eight Road, as described in the Environmental Assessment document. The two parcels are approximately one mile apart, across a major highway.

I presume that your regional arm of the USACE would be involved in any such additional acquisition, regardless of whether it was in fact related to the 88th RSC project or to some other military development project.

Can you confirm (or deny) whether there is any basis to this matter, either as a specific military acquisition and development proposal, or as some less specific interest? This question has an important bearing on the current review of land use and zoning that is being carried out by the Village.

Thank you!

Mr. Hinkle,

I know of no such additional acquisition along Hines Hill or in the Boston Heights area. During the public comment period, I received several e-mail messages from realtors in the area regarding other parcels, but none of the sites proposed are acceptable alternatives. I suspect that this might have been how the rumor got started.

Since I'm only the environmental person, I will forward your inquiry to our Real Estate folks for definite confirmation that what I've said is accurate.

Thanks again for facilitating a broader public review of the environmental documents via your website. Feel free to keep in touch.

Nora

The Louisville District, Corps of Engineers is the responsible office for acquiring property for the Dept of the Army in Ohio. This office is not aware of any other requirement for acquisition in the Cleveland/Boston Heights, OH area for Department of the Army purposes.
