Wallace E. Boers

Veteran, Chemist, Police Chief


Wallace E. "Wally" Boers, 84, a resident of Boston Heights since 1946, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at UHHS Bedford Medical Center.

Born in Chardon, Ohio, on Aug. 30, 1917, the son of Wallace Boers and Christine Egleston, he graduated from Bedford High School in 1934. He worked as a chemist for US Aluminum in Cleveland and also as a tool and die maker in Akron, Solon, and Hudson.

Mr. Boers served part time on the police department and fire department in Boston Heights from 1947-1966, and then became the chief of the police department. He retired in 1983.

He served in the Navy in World War II on the U.S.S. Terror, and was a Mason, Theodore Breck Lodge 714, F&AM.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Olive M. "Donna" in 1997, and by brother, Elmer Boers, he is survived by Sons, Kenneth (Loretta) of Cuyahoga Falls and David (Betty Lou) of Sagamore Hills; daughters, Donna Diaz of Ravenna, Diane (Bill) Lindley of Wadsworth, Kathryn (Bruce) Whitmarsh of Brunswick, Md.; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Weiss of Solon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Leukemia Society. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Johnson-Romito; a Golden Rule Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m., and Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. Internment at Fairview Cemetery.
